The Best Propagation Medium
Propagation in the Garden - What's the best for me ?
Propagation mediums are often compared for the time to root and strike rate, some of the fastest rooting mediums are coco based plugs. The different water to air ratio promotes rapid root growth allowing for a 20-30% increase in root mass when compared to peat based plugs.
Unlike stonewool some plugs or mediums come pre loaded with nutrients to help your seeds and cuttings grow during early life, this can be very useful for your plants as they will be in much better health when fed nutrients.
Mediums can come in different forms from stonewool to loose fill mixes to plugs, some propagation mediums come as plugs or pellets these are small chunks of peat or coco coir that provide your seed or cutting with moisture. There are options for everyone depending on your application and budget.
What we recommend:
Green Cultures Prop Plugs are some of the best on the market, they are made from a blend of coco coir, peat moss and biochar. This blend provides a moisture holding capacity of 93% and an air filled porosity of 22% which provides optimal aeration for stronger roots.
The pH of the plugs is pH5.8 ensuring optimal uptake for young plants while also providing nutrition via the NPK fertilizer and biochar in the plugs. These plugs are a great option for organic cultivation as they are made from OMRI listed coco coir and sustainably sourced peat moss and biochar.
The durability of the plugs are unlike anything we have seen, they are extremely tough and are hard to break apart, they are suitable for hydroponic systems as they don't disintegrate after being submerged for long periods of time.
