Unboxing: Green Culture Prop Plugs
Watch the full unboxing above, then check out the details below.
Green Culture Prop Plugs are an organic-based propagation plug for seed starting and cuttings - built to outperform stonewool, coco, and peat plugs in strike rate, rooting speed, and root strength.
What they're made of:
OMRI organic-listed coco coir, sustainably sourced peat moss, biochar, and a vegetable-based binder. Spongy, but strong enough that they won't break apart or clog irrigation and filtration systems.
Why growers rate them:
- Pre-moistened and pre-charged with a complete NPK fertiliser and naturally occurring Trichoderma
- 93% moisture retention with 22% air-filled porosity - moisture and oxygen where roots need it
- pH 5.8, EC 0.8
- Faster strike rates, quicker rooting, stronger root development
- Won't break apart or block systems - suited to high-turnover commercial propagation and home growers alikeย
Where they work:
Hydroponic, aeroponic, aquaponic, and soil-based systems โ including NFT channels, DWC/RDWC, flood & drain tables, vertical towers, and aeroponic setups. Dried out? Just dunk in plain water to rehydrate.
Fits perfectly with:
Green Culture 50 Cell Propagation Trays and FloraFlex 50 Cell Propagation Domes
๐ Pairs well with Green Culture Prop Trays
๐ Pairs well with Floraflex Propagtion domes
What can you grow in them?
Prop Plugs work great for house plants, medicinal crops, and vegetable/edible crops such as tomatoes, chillies, and other fruiting vegetables.
Made by:
Green Culture, a Kiwi-owned company - made by growers, for growers.

| Lettuce | 2โ7 days |
| Tomatoes | 5โ10 days |
| Chillies | 7โ21 days (can take up to 3โ4 weeks) |
| Medical Cannabis | 2โ7 days |
| Cut flowers (zinnia, sunflower, cosmos, etc.) | 5โ14 days |
Cuttings - rooting time
| Crop | Rooting time |
|---|---|
| Lettuce | Not typically propagated from cuttings |
| Tomatoes | 7โ14 days |
| Chillies | 2โ4 weeks (slower, less reliable than tomatoes) |

ย
Can I use these plugs with any tray or dome, or only Green Culture/FloraFlex ones?ย They're a perfect fit for Green Culture and FloraFlex trays and domes, but they'll work in almost any tray that fits a plug measuring 36mm x 36mm.
Do I need to add extra nutrients, or are they already fed? No extra nutrients needed - each plug is preloaded with Trichoderma and a complete NPK-based fertiliser.
How do I know when to transplant out of the plug? Transplant once there's an established root ball, or at minimum once roots are visibly showing.
Do these plugs work for direct-to-soil growing, or only hydro/aero/aquaponic setups? Both. In soil, they'll eventually biodegrade. In hydroponic systems, they hold their shape - giving you the best of both worlds depending on your setup.
